American Heart Association Programs

The Port Jefferson EMS AHA Training Center functions to broaden the outreach of the American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care Network within our community. The number one goal of the American Heart Association and the Port Jefferson EMS is saving lives.

We strive to promote the mission of the American Heart Association, fighting heart disease and stroke, by offering quality AHA training courses in basic life support, advanced life support and pediatric advanced life support to the community. The Port Jefferson EMS AHA Training Center also serves to support affiliated instructors who require certification, the latest training information, materials and course completion cards.

In addition to the many programs we offer here at our facility, we also offer training in various formats. Our outreach programs are designed to bring our high-quality training to you! Lastly, our hybrid format allows for you to complete the didactic portion of your training in the comfort of your own home with a brief skills session at our facility.

American Heart Association Programs

Advanced Cardiac Life Support

ACLS is an advanced classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In this course, skills are taught in large group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented. Students completing this course are will be eligible to receive 12 Advanced CEUs through CECBEMS. You must have a current CPR card to take this course.

BLS for Healthcare Providers

The Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Classroom Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.

Heartsaver CPR AED
The Heartsaver CPR AED course teaches CPR, Choking, and AED skills for adults, children and infants. You will learn  how to give compressions and breaths to an infant, child, and adult, how to relieve a choking victim, and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). This is an excellent course for:

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid
The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid course teaches first aid, CPR, and AED skills for children. You will learn what to do when a child or infant has a breathing problem, how to give compressions and breaths to an infant or child, and how to stop visible bleeding. This is an excellent course for:

Pediatric Advanced Life Support

This classroom course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved conditions. Students completing this course will be eligible to receive 14.25 Advanced CEUs through CECBEMS.
