Four Types of Memberships Available

Dr. Carl Goodman, DO, FACEP

Dr. Carl S Goodman, DO, FACEP has been affiliated with Port Jefferson EMS since 2000. Initially joining as a volunteer member and devoted resident in hamlet of Mount Sinai his involvement in the volunteer ambulance corp. quickly grew.

Dr. Goodman is a practicing emergency physician, board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM www.abem.org) in both Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services (EMS). EMS in 2010 earned the distinction as being recognized as a subspecialty of emergency medicine and Dr. Goodman was one of the first 250 people in the County to earn this credential. He is also a graduate with a Baccalaureate of Science in Emergency Health Services from University of Maryland, Baltimore County and was one of the first students in the EMS Degree Program at George Washington University, DC.

He has spear headed and supported a number of current EMS programs at PJEMS including Mobile Integrated Health Program, rapid sequence intubation a procedure using medication to establish an advanced airway, high performance cardiopulmonary resuscitation, rescue medic program which is available to provide specialty trained paramedics to complex rescue situations and a “Just Culture” to performance improvement. He responds with Port Jefferson EMS to assist with patient care and provides “bedside” education making house calls in a modern era.

His additional experience included past certification as a paramedic in Maryland and New York State. Past Chair of Suffolk Regional Emergency Medical Services Advisory Committee (REMAC) and currently co-chairs the Quality Assurance Committee. He is the past chair of the Protocol Subcommittee. He is a member of the New York State Emergency Medical Services Advisory Committee (SEMAC) and Medical Standards Subcommittee. Dr. Goodman is a Suffolk Field Physician and member of the Suffolk Disaster Medical Response Team (DMRT) and identified as a Deputy Coordinator by Suffolk Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services (FRES).

He is humbled by earning both Suffolk REMSCO and NYS EMS Physician of Excellence Award in 2008. It is most rewarding to give back to his community, to serve the public in what may be their most distressing, vulnerable and difficult time of their life.
